yeah so this was the result of the Ken Penders lawsuit; SEGA was cracking down on how absurdly dark those stories got as a side note alongside the absolute shitshow that was Ken trying to claim the characters he’d made for Sonic as 100% original Do Not Steal, and he won the lawsuit by default because the contract he signed with Archie somehow couldn’t be found
these rules were put in place during the fallout by SEGA to prevent anything ridiculous like the direction Ken took the comics in from ever happening again
