I Love You Challenge #19

19.   “Can I hold your hand?”

“Can I hold your hand?”

The words were practically a whisper in his ear as the Pack walked through the haunted house. Having a room based on ‘hell’ though hadn’t been expected and even Stiles was getting a little paranoid at the real-seeming fire around them, the roomer getting hotter. Peter was practically glued to his back and Stiles could feel the usually composed man trembling, his attempts at holding his composure breaking.

“Always,” Stiles said, not hesitating to take Peter’s hand in his. The rest of the Pack was lingering behind them, nervous and walking unsurely, startling with every actor that jumped out at them. Stiles and Peter had their eyes only on the dark door leading to the next room, wanted to get out of ‘hell’ as quickly as possible.

A figure moved in Stiles’ peripheral vision and he looked directly at the actor working the room preparing to scare them.

“Sorry to ruin the fun, but now is not the time try and scare us, dude,” Stiles said seriously. “We didn’t know there was fire in this one.”

The guy’s eyes widened in realization and he moved from his hiding spot, glancing over at the nearly-hyperventilating Peter. “Emergency exit is this way,” he said, leading them into a side room and instantly out into the cool night air.

Stiles nodded his thanks, pulling Peter away from the doorway before letting the wolf clutch onto him desperately and hide his face in Stiles’ neck, taking deep shaking lungfuls.

“Never again,” Stiles promised him quietly. “It won’t happen ever again. I won’t let it.”

Peter nodded, but they remained there, winding down, until the Pack showed up twenty minutes later wondering where they’d gone. Stiles laughed it off, putting on a show of embarrassment and saying he had gotten a little too scared at the realism of the house so Peter had sniffed out an emergency exit for him. They teased him relentlessly, but Stiles got to use the excuse to hold Peter’s hand for the rest of the night, so it was worth it.
