I Love You Challenge #21

21.   “You might like this.”

“You might like this,” Stiles offered, handing the item over the Peter with little fanfare.

Peter hummed, studying the pendant curiously. It felt of strong magic but no malevolence. A totem, perhaps? Amulet? Charm?

“Did you make this?” Peter asked, knowing Stiles had been working on his magic lately.

Stiles blushed, ducking his head and refusing to look at him. “Yeah. Dr. Deaton finally taught me some runes and how I can engrave them in things.”

“And what rune is this charmed with?” Peter wondered aloud.

Stiles bit his lip nervously, not saying anything.

Peter huffed, smirking without humor. “Trying to put a tracker on the evil wolfman, Stiles? Not very subtle.”

Stiles rolled his eyes. “No, you idiot, it’s not—” He stopped, sighing. “I’m not even advanced enough to do that kind of stuff yet,” he muttered quietly. “It’s just a stupid charm. Forget it.” He reached to take it back and Peter pulled it away, frowning at the hurt he could scent coming from Stiles.

“No. You gave it to me,” Peter refused, looking back down at it with a furrowed brow. The swirls etched in the back of the rock piece called to him and it was like a trance overcame him as he traced them, activating the rune.

The rock flickered blue in his hands before it started vibrating softly. The rock immediately cooled drastically and it was like a small wind storm was swirling around the edges of it.

“What…” Peter murmured, confused and impressed and unsure and hesitant.

“It’s an ice and wind rune,” Stiles admitted lowly. “I thought, with how hot it’s been, you might appreciate it.”

Peter’s heart clenched and he refused to look over at the human, not knowing what expression he was showing at the moment but knowing it would reach uncomfortabe vulnerable levels. That Stiles would’ve even noticed what the hot weather did to him…

“Thank you,” he managed to get out, deactivating the rune and sliding the rock in his pocket. “I do like it.”

Stiles smiled but didn’t say anything further, bumping his shoulder against Peter’s familiarly before returning to his book.

Even if the rune wasn’t activated, Peter still felt it’s cool, soothing touch along with the soft forgiving warmth of Pack.
